About LIVES
LIVES is a learning institute for visionary epistemologies in STEM fields and interdisciplinary studies. We aim to foster an environment where diverse ways of knowing are welcomed, fostered and supported. Our focus is on understanding and deploying knowledge from cultural perspectives and diverse ideologies. We focus on how and what individuals from diverse cultures know, what is valued and how knowledge is understood. We operate from the premise that there are many ways of knowing in all spaces including academia.
What Is Epistemology?
Epistemology is the theory of knowledge, focused on understanding its origins and the mind’s relation to reality. This subject heavily involves logic, truth, reason, belief, and many other factors, including their relationship with knowledge itself. Epistemology asks what it is to have knowledge and how we know what we know.
What We Do
We seek to provide a space and place that promotes and supports research representing diverse values, ways of knowing, and being. As an institute, we see tremendous value in diverse perspectives and approaches in STEM fields and interdisciplinary studies. We aim to provide a voice to diverse epistemologies, which are often marginalized, to the community through our news updates, events, and live talks through various representations of knowing.
