Lisa Lonefight Senior Scholar
Lisa Lone Fight (enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara [MHA] Nation, born to Dripping Dirt Clan, child of Waterbuster) is the Senior Science Advisor for Chairman Mark Fox. Her work has run the gamut from direct response to environmental incidents and fieldwork to theoretical and applied work in remote sensing and Indigenous Science. Her current position as Senior Science Advisor includes environmental monitoring, developing a tribal science and research plan and ecosystem response to climate change. Her publications include “Keeping Native American Communities Connected to the Land: Women as Change Agents. Rangelands 35(6):63-67. 2013” and “A View from the Sky” in the book Tribal GIS (ESRI Press 2012). Her research methodology includes remote sensing, fieldwork-based participatory research, and Indigenous land cover classification. Lisa was selected to be one of 35 national participants in the “Radical Innovation Summit to Advance STEM Education” and has an extensive history of board service including: NHSC College Tribal College (Chair), MHA Nation TERO Commission (Vice-Chair), The North Dakota Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Society of STEM Women of Color Research Review Board, The American Indian Science and Engineering Society and The Museum of the Rockies.
